Rise UP and Wise UP

On my best days & my worst days . . .

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! – 1 John 3:1

I woke up at 4:30AM with these lyrics from Cain’s “I’m so blessed” playing again and again and again (still playing):

‘Cause on my best day, I’m a child of God
On my worst day, I’m a child of God
Oh, every day is a good day
And You’re the reason why

I’m a child of God. Period. On the good days, the bad days, the days when I can’t stop asking for forgiveness (one mishap and another and another), the days when I can’t stop praising, the days when I fall on my bed hopeless or the days when I fall on my bed content . . . every day, I am a child of God.

My racing, discontent, covetous and anxious heart tried to get the best of me at 4:30AM, and this song began as a quiet stirring until it was loudly blaring within and put me right back to my quiet, peaceful sleep. I needed reminded of who I am and Whose I am. I am a child of God.

There are many titles we wear throughout our days: parent, grandparent, child, sibling, worker, employee, employer, student, teacher, boss, athlete, friend, coworker, and the list goes on and on and on. But my best and most important title is: child of God. Some times while we wear these titles we have hearts of praise to the God who saves and redeems and gives peace beyond understanding, and some times (if we’re being honest) we have hearts of self-praise, self-worship, and self-loathing that leaves us feeling anything but peaceful and redeemed and tries to steal our most important and best title.

But feelings are fickle. The love of God is not. He greatly lavished us with this love on our best days and our worst days. He loved the women in the photo on their worst days before we knew the love of the savior, and He loves us 35 years later through our relationships with each other and Him. This omnipresent, always loving, always forgiving, all powerful relationship will always find me, regardless of what kind of day it is.

On my best days, I’m a child of God.

On my worst days, I’m a child of God.

Every day is a good day – and You’re the reason why.

XOXO, Loni
