He made the storm be still, and the waves were hushed. – Psalm 107:29
Storms. Storms are volatile and beautiful. Storms are fast and sometimes slow. Storms can cover the ground in mud and dirt or leave a white blanket of perfect serenity. Storms can cause a violent earth changing flood or give a much needed drink to a dry and parched land. Regardless, storms come and go. And so it is with this life.
Unlike nature, we have a choice on how we handle the storms of this life. Swirling all around me, much like this incredibly windy day, is a lot of chatter about my current decisions in this life. The wind of others is attempting to affect my confidence and boldness as I approach a new chapter in life. But here’s the thing with storms, they always pass. There’s no sense in getting worked up, angered up, saddened, or dismayed because this storm will pass. Most importantly, what does my good good Father say about my decisions and the storms I am in. Someone once shared with me, “It doesn’t matter what others think, only what God knows.”
I am preparing for a retreat in the upcoming weeks. The retreat is titled “Anchored”. I have been studying and preparing, I reread and revisited scripture and scribbled frantically notes and comments in my everything prayer journal, I realized something about being anchored – an anchor tethers to the foundation of the sea bottom. An anchor keeps the boat from drifting and floating aimlessly through the storm and the calm. An anchor is our hope when life is volatile and stormy and restless – as a lover of Christ, our anchor of hope holds us firmly to our foundation of Christ. His foundation is the stability we so desperately need.
Friends, are you anchored? Is your anchor of hope deeply embedded in foundation of Christ or have you forgotten to throw your anchor in? Drop the anchor and get ready to weather any and every storm – with Him the impossible becomes possible. With Him, every storm is hushed.
XOXO, Loni
